Why not knowingly move the search bar to the header of the site, or join it to the main navigation? These approaches make more sense, after all, what is more central than that? Introduce the reader to the most relevant entries is a great idea to keep them hooked on your site for long periods of time. This is an idea that will not have many detractors.
